Honeywell, Inc. corporate office center and manufacturing plant for the avionics division (cockpit controls) is located just west of Olathe, Kan. Honeywell is a leading global provider of integrated avionics, engines, systems and service solutions for aircraft manufacturers, airlines, business and general aviation, military, space and airport operations.

Environmental Mechanical Contractors, Inc. designed and built this "fast track" corporate divisional office and manufacturing facility. Project completion time frame and space utilization required easily obtained, installed and modifiable HVAC systems.

EMC installed a "dual duct" heating and cooling system for the office areas (roughly 180,000 square feet), which took advantage of cooling only and heating only variable air volume roof top units. Strategic duct layout made for quick and convenient zone additions or changes, which would better, accommodate the owner's personnel changes. Constant volume packaged gas/electric roof top units in the manufacturing areas with exposed spiral duct were incorporated to handle Honeywell's "open" and "plug/play" production layout. EMC spearheaded the plant relocation activities to provide support utilities to personnel and processes such as exhaust systems, exhaust hoods, domestic water, drainage systems, compressed air, gaseous nitrogen, cooling water and dedicated air conditioning.

"Environmental Mechanical constructed our facility in nine months," said Dusty Tenny, director of business transitions for AlliedSignal(now Honeywell). "The company integrated information systems, electrical, HVAC, systems and furniture infrastructure in 17 weeks. They moved 2,000 people and 20 product lines, reduced production line downtime from seven days to one day and exceeded financial expectations."

AlliedSignal presented its highest award, the Premier Achievement Award, to Environmental Mechanical for leadership and its accomplishments during the Cedar Creek transition.
